Random Quote

By speech first, but far more by writing, man has been able to put something of himself beyond death. In tradition and in books an integral part of the individual persists, for it can influence the minds and actions of other people in different places and at different times: a row of black marks on a page can move a man to tears, though the bones of him that wrote it are long ago crumbled to dust.
-- Julian Huxley

Moving

Tamara and I have started combining households and though my joints are achy from all that lifting and carrying, I'm happy. This is the fireplace room. It has a great view of the deck and the trees in the backyard.

The living room and dining room are taking shape.

We went up yesterday and had a belated Christmas with my folks and all the kids. Schedules are hectic, but it was a good day of cards and laughter and giving.

Just a few days ago, Tamara showed me my ring. It's beautiful and perfect.

I asked her recently what goals she has for our marriage. What does she want out of it? She gave me a great list.

I think I'll ask her this every once in a while. Goals change. Needs change. It's good to sometimes reassess and change with what's changing.

What we do, we do together. I'm ready. And I'm happy. I've had butterflies in the stomach before and all that, but there's something quite different in her presence. It's a very physical sense of rightness. It's as though every cell in my body mouths a silent "Yes..." when I am with her.

It's very cool.

Okay, I'm gonna go all girly a minute:

Pretty pretty rings!! Not only does the Celtic knotwork rock (it's almost as cool as the knots in my tattoo), I love Tamara's ring! She is officially cool in my book now, because she's not wearing a diamond. They have been so done! And they just aren't that fabulous. One of my secretaries got a big old diamond engagement ring, and while I'm sure it put her fiancee in debt, it just looks...tacky. My sister, on the other hand, got a solitary ruby, and it's gorgeous! Colors are the way to go, sister! If the time ever comes, I want emeralds...or opals. Love the opals.

And the house...I feel the need to buy you dishtowels. Don't care if you need 'em or not. It's what you do when friends buy houses. Is the picture from the obligatory "moving trip to Target"? You know the one...when you have to go to Target or Kmart or somewhere of that ilk, and spend buttloads of money on shelf paper and cleaning supplies and picture hanging hardware? I love that trip---it almost makes the pain of moving worth it.

All right, that's enough. Here endeth the girliness.

Here here to the occasional moments of girliness! I hear what you are saying Bella and I agree. I was so moved by the symbolic impressions of the sapphire with Brett that I would not have been as happy with anything else. While diamonds may be precious, my ring is priceless because it came from Brett.

The celtic ring for Brett was a natural move for us both. The fact that it was custom made especially for him made it worthy of a man that deserves the best and it had that celtic influence that is special to us both.

The picture of shopping was in LOWE's haha! We were indeed doing some of that obligatory shopping that is so much fun and allowed us to think about how our house will be! While the house is... well it is not pulled together yet - it is taking shape very nicely. I/we am/are looking forward to putting the "US" feel to it and making it our own.

Thanks for the comments!!

And please let me clarify before all the diamond buyers/wearers flog me, it is just my opinion, which really doesn't mean a whole lot in the big scheme of things. If you have/buy diamonds and love them---yay! More power to you. They are merely not to my taste. And it's the meaning behind the stone more than the thing itself anyway.

There endeth the disclaimer. :-)
