In the two or three or four months that it takes me to write a play, I find that the reality of the play is a great deal more alive for me than what passes for reality.

Purple

I read that Atlanta might elect a new mayor who describes herself as a "'purple' fiscal conservative."

I like that description. That describes me pretty well. I strongly support gay marriage, I am devoutly capitalist, I believe in individual freedom and limited government, and I'm definitely a fiscal conservative.

"Purple fiscal conservative" - that'll work.

Purple, I really like that. Conservatives need to rally around those core principles of fiscal responsibility, limited government, and individual freedom. From there you can branch out and expand the "tent" the GOP likes to refer to.

Yeah - the problem with the Republican wing is that a few Christians don't believe in individual freedom. They want to shove Christianity down our throats. Anyone who wants to use the government to coerce my behavior is a statist. Sadly, they don't see it that way. But if they spend more than two seconds thinking it through, it's not tough to grasp.
