No, it didn't get much better. I do give credit to McCain for at least trying to address hard issues. But his core problem is this: he believes in government. Reagan never taught him the foundation of conservatism: government is the problem. Reagan wanted to remove government from our lives. Both candidates in this election want to make us proud of our government by putting it front and center. To hell with that. After sleeping on it, McCain lost me last night. His plugs for McCain-Feingold and his stupid legislation with Joe Lieberman told me that he's saying anything to get elected. As I'm trying to skewer Obama by pointing to Obama's proposed legislation, I could do the same with McCain. The only place where I respect McCain is foreign policy/military, and that's enough that I'll pull for him on election day, but I'm not campaigning for him. He's simply the better of the two, and not by much. By the way, I do think that those of us in the cheap seats are gonna get shellacked by the time the accounting for our front-and-center government is over. But our president and representatives should try to reduce that as much as possible. |
