Partyless

I don't mind the GOP losing the mid-term elections. Not that I'm excited about the Democrats (Murtha backed by Pelosi??? Yeah, there's leadership for ya...), but holy good god. Rumsfeld sacked the day after the election. Bush excited about illegal amnesty. And Mel Martinez chosen to run the RNC.

I'm now officially an independent. Goodbye, GOP.

Read the comments at the link I give. An awful lot of conservatives are ready to bail.

Limited goverment.
Tight tax and fiscal policies.
Strong, America-first defense and foreign policy.

First come, first serve. There's a whole bunch of voters looking for a home.

Welcome to the land of political refugees. I left the GOP last year as I'd had enough of his liberalism. To put it simply he really is "stuck on stupid." He is now destroying what is left of the party. Goes to show NOTHING was learned last week.

What will this amnesty bill get us without securing the borders? How many million more citizens and the problem continues? Toss that into the pile of brilliant ideas that includes the department of homeland security, unarmed national guard troops at the borders, catch and release, Harriet Miers, Mel Martinez, etc..

Anybody feel like having a modern day "tea party?"

We could all head to Boston for a modern day tea party! First stop by that wonderful earmark called the "Big Dig," maybe John Kerry could come by and sprinkle some "nuance" around as we properly disposed of our "tea," and we could finish off the day tossing down a few with the hero of Chappaquiddick himself, the one, the only, Ted Kennedy.

I get the feeling there are going to be many "are you shitting me" moments over the next two years. The country better have a good sense of humor, we'll need it.

Good God. Well, granted there's no name calling...no small amount of snark, though.

Maybe the GOP fell apart because it was time. Maybe it's time all the parties fell apart. But if we can't get let go of freakin' Chappaquiddick and John Kerry and start looking toward the future, maybe looking for some living horses to beat, it occurs to me that we're all pretty much screwed.

By the way, if y'all are in the DSM area, John Edwards is doing a book signing at Barnes and Noble on November 29th. I think y'all should go and tell him what you think. Bipartisan thinking has to start somewhere---why not start with telling it to the other side.

Hmm... note to self... if it's interactivity that I want, write about politics.

You know, I really don't think either party is worthy of support. Easy to critique, but hard to solution.

I'm of a divided mind. On the one hand, watching the train wreck that is the Grand Old Potty, I want to turn my head and walk away. "Fine. Be that way." I'm small here. Little ol' me. How much "Yop" can I truly muster down here in Whoville? I should shut up and paint.

On the other hand, I ought to go down with both guns blazin', shouting out for freedom and an absence of corruption - though I know it would never happen. People are too easily tempted and succomb.

God grant me the wisdom to know the things I can change, the things I can't, and some really big ugly hairy guy to take care of those things that I can't personally change.

Sasquatch in 08! He'd get my vote. In this political environment we're more likely to find him before we do a true conservative. :)

Wonder if John Edwards would sign one of my books by Ann Coulter? Hehehehe. Bella, what would you ask him?

Term limits. Add that to my political wish list. Can we please get some of these dinosaurs out of there? A step in the right direction to get rid of some of the corruption.

Actually, I met him once, and I only had a chance to ask how he liked Iowa...of course, it was around caucus time, so he loved it. I'm not sure. I think I'd ask him about what kind of world he'd like to see his kids live in, and how he'd like to help make that happen. I'd ask him about incentives for industry and automakers to be more environmentally responsible, and sanctions against those that aren't. I'd ask him what he'd like to see happen in the middle east and how he thinks we could get out of Iraq saving both face and lives. Anyhow, he struck me as a good guy, and that counted for a lot. I met John Kerry once too, similar situation, shook his hand, that's about all, but got a 'meh' vibe. Not a lot of charisma.

The fact that you've given that woman (and I use the term loosely for Ms. Coulter) some of your hard earned money makes me sad, Pale Rider. She's definately more in the 'problem' column, not the 'solution'.

OK this is too funny. Just saw one of those "messing with Sasquatch" commercials on tv. Made me laugh.

Bella, excellent questions. Although I am conservative I am also environmentally conscious, which some on the right might call liberal. I'd love to see a greater focus placed on more fuel efficient cars and help reduce our dependence on foreigh oil. Since we don't produce much here in the US anymore (will save comments on that for another day), it might not be as big an impact on industry as say in the 80's. The oil industries ties to government definitely need to be cut. I don't buy for a second that we haven't been ripped off considerably the last 18 months. When Exxon Mobile is pulling in 10.5 billion in quartely profits I have a hard time buying they are only making a few cents a gallon on gasoline.

Ann hasn't got much of my money, but I'd love to see the look on his face if someone asked him to sign it (I have an evil sense of humor at times). What I have of hers I picked off the discount table and actually was quite disappointed with "How to talk to a liberal, if you must." Really was just a cover slapped over columns she had written. She has gotten even more divisive recently and you are correct she is part of the problem and not the solution. It's so easy for her (or anyone on each side) to Monday morning quarterback and rip apart what they see as wrong. Offering solutions would be much better, explaining the "why."

OK Bella, new question for JE. He has been anti-Walmart recently, well documented, yet sends a staffer to Walmart to get a Sony Playstation 3 and asks for special treatment? That is the kind of hypocracy that just infuriates me. Not mad at you but this is one of the reasons I see him as a scumbag.

On that note, take your pic of "pork" filled republicans that do the same thing. Just drives me nuts when the media focuses on republicans but gives democrates a pass. Why is congressman Jefferson from LA still in office? Dems can't clean their own house. Delay had to step down after he was under inditment (sp) from a partisan prosector. Not the same rules for the democratic party.

1-6 year term and out would go a LONG way toward cleaning up washington. Restrictions on lobbying, common national funds candidates draw from for campaigning (each party gets identical funds), comission to review all major party ads for accuracy before they can be run, would go a long way towards returning the government back to "for the people."

I'd much rather sit out back with all my conservative and liberal friends, watch our kids play, cook on the grill, and say a big BLEEP to both political parties. We, the people of "whoville" deserve a hell of a lot better. Maybe it's time we bring out our weapon, THE GRINCH!
