Random Quote

Use plain, simple language, short words and brief sentences. That is the way to write English - it is the modern way and the best way. Stick to it; don't let fluff and flowers and verbosity creep in. When you catch an adjective, kill it. No, I don't mean utterly, but kill most of them - then the rest will be valuable. A wordy habit, once fastened upon a person, is as hard to get rid of as any other vice.

Belief

If there is an atom to relationships, I think it's this:

Expressed belief in the other person.
Whether it's friendships, couples, or family ties, the one thing most attractive and ensuring of longevity is, after a lot of consideration, expressed belief.

I think this is true, although I've usually reduced it down to expressions of respect and sincere appreciation. The research and surveys supporting this idea in various ways usually use these terms as well. Interestingly, in that research, these things tend to show up higher in the hierarchy of needs for men than women, so I usually include that in my evaluation of cultural trends and consequences.
