I've been reading about the Occupy Wall Street / San Francisco / Baltimore thing, and while the exercise of free speech is fine, why in the world would anybody think that it's okay to sit around unproductively for days and weeks on end? And worse, to have it recorded for the world to see?

When I've been unemployed, and in fact even when I was homeless, I still worked at looking for work 8 to 10 hours a day.

Have a rally for an afternoon to capture attention for your cause, but if you're complaining that you don't share in the success that others enjoy, maybe the reason is that you don't mind being unproductive for extended lengths of time.

Their cause is to protest the imagined privilege of the successful by demanding more of it for themselves (big bucks for lounging around in a park for days on end) and the government (which would step in and control the evil capitalists that they are mistakenly, but explicitly, protesting as examples of privilege.) Now, if they limited themselves to Goldman Sachs, the Fed, the Treasury Department, et al., I'm ok with that. But the ever popular anti-Capitalists and other useful idiots really need to spend some time lounging around one of Stalin' gulags if they want to know what a real lack of privilege looks like, since that's the end result of the society they demand. Pity their iPhones and laptops won't get a signal there.

Taipei was supposed to have one of those protests today, in which they were supposed to surround Taipei 101, holding hands. It was raining. I happened to have an inept taxi driver who took me by 101 right when it was supposed to happen - nothing.

So much for the passion for a cause. Can one be said to be passionate about laziness?

I remember when the tea party was portrayed as a bunch of anarchists. Funny thing about anarchy: it lasts only as long as it takes the boldest person to start telling others what to do, and then acquire the means to enforce their will.

The universe favors order. Disorder doesn't last long.

Via Drudge, both the American Nazi Party and the Communist Party USA have both issued statements in support of the poor, downtrodden 99 percenters. Since they've been on it before, they can see down the road some way beyond the protestors ... and they like what they see.
