Writing is not like painting where you add. It is not what you put on the canvas that the reader sees. Writing is more like a sculpture where you remove, you eliminate in order to make the work visible. Even those pages you remove somehow remain.

A Place of My Own

For the first time in 16 months, I'm going to sleep in a room I can call my own. It's delightful, the childlike joy that I feel.

ETC: And a picture this morning...

Congratulations! Childlike joy is the greatest one we can have. I am delighted you are experiencing it.

Me too! I also bought myself a drafting table and some rolling drawers for painting. It's unbelievable to me that the two of them combined cost less than $100. The table sits in front of the window in my room, which has a beautiful view of trees and a wooden bridge.

Like George Carlin said, everyone's got to have a place for their stuff.

Now if I could find some time to paint...

congrats on the room of your own. (to quote virginia woolfe) everyone needs their own space for rest, quiet, and to create.

Okay, this may simply (further?) demonstrate my general tendancy toward bad temper, but I don't know how you lasted 16 months without a door to slam. :-) You are a hero to be admired.

Congratulations on the space---with a view, no less. Once your time frees up a bit, I foresee great creative forces set loose!

I love that you put the drafting table by the window...very cool! And your own bed, room, everything. I'm giddy for you. :-)
(p.s. do Austin and Cub want to camp out with dad now??)
