"Man is born free but everywhere is in chains."

Or something to that effect. Every Libertarian should read Jean-Jacques Roussea'us classic treatise on education, "Emile."

Once we depart from the primitive state of nature and enter into a civilized state of existence, we inherently give up freedoms that we might otherwise enjoy in the natural state.

It is interesting to contemplate how the level of civilization in which we exist may conflict with thinngs natural---such as gulls---and to what extent we must adapt our otherwise natural or innate behaviors to compensate for such a conflict.

Of course, anti-environmentalists don't like to consider those things. It's too inconvenient. It's easier to act in self-interest at the expense of the environment, or just "drill baby drill."

Self-interested thinking at the expense of everything around us is callous and ignorant.
