Not Gonna Play Well

Barack Obama won the Nobel Peace Prize.

Rather than recognizing concrete achievement, the 2009 prize appeared intended to support initiatives that have yet to bear fruit.

1. The Nobel committee just completely negated any shred of legitimacy it had. Awarding such a prize for no achievement whatsoever is beyond silliness.
2. World leaders will despise Obama more than they already do, and they'll stick it to him where they can - because the last thing they want from him is more reason for arrogance.

ETC: I read that the American media is not all amorous about this either. Good. If Obama were an honorable man, he would pass on the award, saying rightly that he hasn't done anything yet to deserve such recognition. While that's obvious on its face, I kinda doubt he'll do that...

Don't you just love this paper maché presidency? Just the change we were looking for!

Also, does this please or piss off Jimmy Carter?

This award needs to be renamed the Nobel "Hope and Dope" award. Carter in 2002, Gore in 2007, and now I-Bama (I love than name by the way), who was nominated less than 2 weeks after the beginning of his presidency.

Your second point has me thinking. He had the big apology tour across the world, apologizing for American arrogance and that things would change. When in fact that supposed arrogance was leadership. Everyone new what we were doing and why. We went alone in many instances because Europe didn't have the backbone.

On the other hand Obama's apology tour was a major sign of weakness, but to pull it off you have to show humility. Obama doesn't do humility, it isn't geniune, and other leaders have seen right thru it. So where are we now? Right back to arrogance.

I believe in advancement by merit. Obama didn't do anything of merit. It's that simple. While I don't like the national embarrassment we call Jimmy Carter, I'll grant that he certainly achieved something in brokering the deal between Egypt and Israel. Obama has done, well... nothing - certainly not on the level that Carter did!

So, am I anti-American? I guess that depends on whether I cheerlead what was once a monumental award now received by someone for their good intentions, and not for real achievement.

Let's wait for the meritorious accomplishment, shall we?

P.S. Anyone catch the rumor that Obama is now up for the Heisman? Certainly just as well-earned...

Good! Let's talk about rumors, shall we? Like you Brett, I was once (moments ago) a raving liberal, "t-shirt and all..." Alas, you've all convinced me of the error of my ways, so I've decided to join the part of NO. I

Instead of volunteering my time or for community service to help the less fortunate, SCREW THEM ALL. They can pull their sad, sorry arses up by their own bootstraps! And as far as me opening my wallet to pay taxes for the public good, social services, and all that other libbbbbberal BS, screw it.!! I'm now an angry conservative and I don't trust government to deliver those services, and if I choose to I'll deliver them myself. I'm NOT my brother's keeper, and I don't buy that crap about "so as you do unto the least of these, the least of these my children, you do unto me." So screw you too, God--and Huckabee too! You guys aren't conservative enough for me.

Instead, I'm going to spend my time volunteering for an extreme right-wing hate group dedicated to the design and dlivery of deceitful email chains. I'll be working in the Fear Monger Department, and my first project is to design and implement an email campaign strategy purporting the H1N1 vaccine to be a liberal plot to inject the nation with liberalism under the guise of a pandemic, while simultaneously transferring wealth from Big Insurance to Big Pharma and pro-Obama medical doctors in high-minority, large urban centers.

Damn...just received and email and FreedomWorks is already on that idea!

Back to the FearMonger huddle room. This new job is gonna be harder than I thought...

A couple of days ago, I went to lunch with one of the guys who helped organize the Des Moines Tea Party. Over lunch, I learned the great story of how he took in a foster kid whose mom was a meth addict. He and his wife worked with the boy and his mother for over a year to help get the family reunited. The mom cleaned herself up and today, they're all best of friends. It's a hell of a story.

All of those assumptions you carry about right-wing hatred are propaganda and don't resemble anyone I know. The folks I know want people to thrive, to achieve their dreams, to celebrate success. They're willing to help anyone in any way they can. The difference, though, is that they want to have the freedom to step forward of their own volition, and not be coerced through inefficient means.

What a drama queen Ruby. I've got $20 that says you are up to date on the latest from Jeanine Garafalo on us "teabagging racists."

Between raising 2 kids on my own, volunteer coaching several activities, working, how does that fit in to your right wing hatred view? I am typical of the tea party activists here, but go on thinking its a bunch of hate filled nut jobs.

The difference between us is quite simple. Either you believe in individual rights, that people are able to do for themselves or you believe that every problem is for government to solve and tell us what to do.

When you aren't too busy looking down your nose at most of the world, check out my personal favorite charity, St. Jude's. No need for government there.
